“Grunn’s skill is truly akin to magic. He performs with dumbfounding economy of movement, representing each three-dimensional soul with deceptively little effort. “ The Electric City

“Richard Grunn really is a man of many faces.  In Father Joiner’s Purgative Poetry Project, we are introduced to the man himself, a Yankee preacher with a penchant for magnetic refrigerator poetry.  Father Joiner hosts an evening with the Purgative Poetry Project-his collected band of sinners, each with their own particular brand os verse.  Through a series of quick, minor costume changes, the poetry appreciating priest seemlessly transforms into a selection of vivid characters, including a New Yoike mechanic, whose interests include ladies and haikus, and an eccentric lady on the wrong side of fifty, and a deli owner, amongst others.  An entertaining concept. “ Three Weeks, Edinburgh Festival

“Mr. Grunn is one of the finest observational comedy performers we have had the pleasure to engage.  The detailed character studies he portrays have both heart and soul, as well as a tragi-comic edge that can make you laugh and even hide the occasional tear.   This is one man who can serve up a myriad of individuals in the course of an evening; a one man show with a cast of finely tuned characters that can truly astound an audience. ” Arundel Festival,  England

“The charismatic Grunn dazzled the audience by portraying characters from a crusty Gramercy Park bartender to a deaf mailman to a crazy but timid repairman.  At one point, two of Grunn’s characters even get into an argument offstage, in two different accents.” The Times Leader

We’ve all seen performers who turn their backs, adjust their collars, take a deep breath, and otherwise prepare to do a quick character change.  Comic impersonators do it all the time.   We’re not likely to see it in the theater, but we hope a stage actor would have a little space-maybe 60 seconds or so?-to switch from one roll to another.    Richard Grunn gives himself  no such luxury.  Yet his transitions, instantaneous as they are, are so seamless, so complete, that a friend said it took her a while to realize the roles were played by the same actor. The Wayne Independent

“Mr. Grunn creates the nine other characters, each one distinct in voice, body language, gesture and mannerisms.  Mr. Grunn never misses a beat in his flawless and often fast-paced transitions from one character to another.
