Teatro del Momento, or "Theatre of the Moment," is a dynamic and innovative street theatre style that transforms public spaces into stages. Primarily performed at night, it harnesses natural darkness and strategic lighting to craft an immersive atmosphere, using light and shadow as creative tools to shape the performance reality. Known for its avant-garde and experimental pieces, this theatre form often pushes the boundaries of traditional theatre. Puppetry is central to its storytelling, employing techniques from shadow puppets to life-sized body puppets to bring stories vividly to life.
By taking performances out of traditional settings and into community spaces, Teatro del Momento makes theatre and art accessible to all, removing barriers to entry. A hallmark of this style is the deliberate creation of spontaneity, with performances surprising unsuspecting passersby in unexpected places, turning everyday environments into stages and transporting audiences into another world.
La Schiuma is a performance piece featuring an abstract, otherworldly creature navigating through a portal in search of a safe place to leave its offspring. Constructed from multiple pieces of foam, the creature’s form is in constant flux—capturing and refracting light in ways that obscure its true shape. This ever-morphing figure creates an ethereal, almost spectral presence. Designed for nighttime performances in dark, atmospheric spaces, the piece relies on the interplay of light and shadow to shape the audience’s perception of the creature. Accompanied by a carefully composed soundscape and battery-powered lighting, “La Schiuma” immerses viewers in an eerie, dreamlike journey—blurring the boundaries between the organic and the artificial, the known and the unknown.
Circo Urbano is a bilingual puppet performance, in Italian and English, that follows the story of Urbano Urbani, the once-great ringmaster of Urbano’s Circus, now homeless and destitute. Urbano waits eagerly for the arrival of the Principessa di Lamborghini, a patron of the arts and owner of The Principessa Corporation, hoping her investment will restore the circus to its former glory.
Inspired by Alexander Calder’s *Circus of Wire*, the puppets are made from recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Each puppet is uniquely constructed, moving in its own way, bringing Urbano’s world to life with a blend of artistry and imagination.
